SnT Alumnus, German Castignani, CTO of Motion S, is sharing his experience on the benefits, challenges and risks when turning your research into a spin-off.

The academic research area has suffered huge transformations during the last decades. Public universities and research institutes have no longer the capacity to absorb all the scientific human resources they produce. In that context, spinning-off research activities with business potential into start-ups has become an interesting formula to extend the traditional academic research into a more complete and dynamic eco-system.

However, independently from the resources research institutes assign to TTO activities, the spin-off milestone always depends on the decision of a single person: the Researcher. In this talk, I would like to navigate through the benefits, challenges and risks that a researcher faces when taking this decision. Thanks to concrete examples, I’d like to present real-life situations and view-points in order to facilitate researcher’s decision-making for spinning-off.

Some food and drinks will be provided.
