About the topic

This hands-on course provides a gradual and detailed introduction to a set of middleware tools to automate the solution of non-linear partial differential equations (PDEs) through automatic differentiation. The tools are generic and can be applied to any field where PDEs are of interest. The examples provided and solved during the computer lab sessions will cover a wide range of topics, from simple non-linear Poisson problems to more involved large deformation contact problems. A discussion of coupled sets of PDEs will also be provided.

About the speaker

Jakub Lengiewicz graduated in informatics from the University of Warsaw, Poland. He received the Ph.D. degree in mechanics (computational methods in contact mechanics) from the Institute of Fundamental Technological Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IPPT PAN), in 2009, where he is currently an Assistant Professor. Since 15 years he has been an advanced user and a developer of the AceGEN/AceFEM system, created and developed by Prof. Joze Korelc from Ljubljana, Slovenia. Specifically, his research interests included development of automation techniques to solve large-deformation, multi-field three-dimensional contact problems.
