On its Welcome Day on 16 September 2022, which marked the beginning of classes, the University of Luxembourg welcomed approximately 1,000 new students on its Belval Campus.

The Welcome Day gives newcomers the opportunity to discover the campus and helps them assimilate into their new environment. Presentations, guided tours and a free lunch provided ample opportunities to get acquainted with the institution and socialise with fellow students.

The 2022 Welcome Day took place under mostly normal circumstances, all “in presence”, following two earlier editions impacted by Covid-19 restrictions. Rector Prof. Stéphane Pallage and Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Catherine Léglu welcomed the guests consisting mainly of Bachelor and Master students and introduced them to the University’s rich student life. The student associations presented their diverse activities and planned events.

As part of Esch2022 – the European Capital of Culture 2022 – Belval Campus promises a culturally stimulating semester. In parallel to the University’s Welcome Day, the University-led Esch2022 project “Petite Maison” inaugurated their tiny house on campus. The collaborative architectural approach offers visitors and users a space of welcome and encounter and is a reflection on resilience and sustainability in a broader sense.

The Welcome Day also offered students the opportunity to discover the campus and the Luxembourg Learning Centre. The information stands of student services such as Admissions and Accommodation offered complementary information in a direct exchange, as well as take-home reading materials. A sponsored welcome pack containing with small useful and fun gifts was offered to each new student.

To all new students, the University extends a warm welcome and wishes a successful academic year!
