The Luxembourg Learning Centre (LLC) was opened officially on 24 September in an inauguration ceremony in the presence of Their Royal Highnesses Grand Duke and Duchess of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg as well as Marc Hansen, Minister Delegate for Higher Education and Research and François Bausch, Minister of sustainable development and infrastructure.

At the ceremony, the speakers enthusiastically lauded the architecture of the building combining the site’s industrial heritage and modern design. University Rector Stéphane Pallage said that the Learning Centre was a “showcase of the digital strategy of the University”.

More than a library, a learning environment

The new building offering more than 8,000 net floor space is supposed to offer more than classical library services, as it provides a state-of-the-art learning environment for students and for the general public with flexible structure for group work and digital learning tools.Students can choose from a large variety of learning settings, from the individual workspace for the study of books and print-material, through digital collaboration environments for small groups up to interactive and virtual classrooms for larger groups of students who can be either on-site or connected via Internet. “It’s not just a library, it’s a place where new digital and pedagogical concepts are intertwined with books and the exchange of knowledge,” commented Minister Marc Hansen. With a budget of over 59 million Euros, the Luxembourg Learning Centre was one of the most important building projects of Campus Belval and a significant investment in the development of the site and the University.
