On Monday, 9 July 2018, the government and the University of Luxembourg signed a multi-annual convention to foster the development of training programmes and research activities in the field of medicine. The University will receive 26.4 million euros for the period 2018-2021.
The convention was signed, from the government, by Marc Hansen, Minister Delegate for Higher Education and Research and Léon Diederich, First Government Counsellor; and, from the University, by Yves Elsen, President of the Board of Governors and Stéphane Pallage, Rector.

New BA in medicine starting in two years
As part of this agreement, the University will set up a three-year bachelor programme in medicine, starting from the academic year 2020/2021, with a focus on modern teaching concepts. In a second phase, the option of setting up a Master in medical studies in Luxembourg will be examined.
This new bachelor will be set up in close collaboration with foreign universities in order to ensure access for graduates to further studies. For instance, the University of Luxembourg will conclude specific agreements with the Universities of Lorraine, Strasbourg, Paris V and Paris VI by the end of 2019. In parallel, the University of Luxembourg will continue to offer its students, who successfully complete their first year in medicine, the opportunity to pursue their studies within universities where a partnership already exists.
In addition to this bachelor, the University of Luxembourg will develop specialised training in oncology, neurology and general medicine from the academic year 2019/2020.
