First PhD Career Day, with major employers and dedicated workshops

The first edition of the University’s PhD Career Day, aimed at giving doctoral candidates, postdocs and research scientists their best chance to find the right employer and develop their career in academia or outside of it, will be organised by the Career Centre of the University on Tuesday 24 January, from 9.30 to 17.30 in Maison des Arts et des Etudiants, on Belval Campus. 25 employers, including CFL, Post, FNR, LIH, LISER, LIST, ArcelorMittal, Goodyear, Deloitte, KPMG, Ceratizit, BGL BNP Paribas, will be available for individual interviews.

Workshops and mentoring

Workshops with specific content targeted at PhDs, postdocs and research scientists are programmed, with topics such as mentoring for career development, skills identification, translating PhD skills into professional skills, career outside academia, and spin-off creation.

As an international research university, the University of Luxembourg has a high proportion of doctoral students, with over a thousand currently enrolled “This is a great opportunity for young researchers to make crucial contacts for their future careers”, says Romain Raux from the Career Centre. “Participants will have the opportunity to meet recruiters and to exchange about the variety of job positions open for them in Luxembourg and beyond.

Company presentations and networking

Throughout the day, presentations of opportunities within companies, institutions, public and private organisations will be held in a dedicated room, along with question and answer- sessions. The University’s Alumni network, will also present its new online platform and apps for alumni communication and activities throughout their career.
