For the second time, life Sciences researchers from the University of Luxembourg participated in the Lëtz Go Gold charity run organised on 28 September 2019 by the Kriibskrank Kanner Foundation. On this occasion, 270 000 € have been raised to finance research against paediatric cancers. In particular, the University of Luxembourg and the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH) will continue the research project about the exposure of pesticides and its link with paediatric cancers.
In 2018, the University of Luxembourg and the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH) decided to join their forces to better understand how pesticides affect human health and develop strategies to circumvent the deleterious effects of pesticides. The research project “Effects of pesticides on the gut and their role in cancer development” was selected for funding by the Kriibskrank Kanner Foundation in the framework of the first Lëtz Go Gold charity run.
A year later, the first results are encouraging. “All methods and models important to the success of the project have been established. We are currently testing the effect of the pesticides by using these models”, comments Dr. Elisabeth Letellier from the Molecular Disease Mechanisms group (MDM) at the University of Luxembourg.
