Gaudí's geometrical secrets

Claudi Alsina from the “Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya” will present the works of Antoni Gaudí (1852-1926) on Wednesday 5th May. Claudi Alsina studied mathematics at the University of Barcelona and at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and is now professor of mathematics at the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) in Barcelona. From 2002 to 2004 he served as General Director of Universities in Catalonia and since 2007 he is member of the Evaluation board of the education system of Catalonia. He has been national delegate at the International Mathematical Union (IMU) and at its International Commission on Mathematical Instruction (ICMI) from 1986 to 1997. He was a member of the international programme committee of three International Congresses on Mathematical Education (ICME) and chaired the committee at the congress in Sevilla in 1996. In mathematics education he likes visualisation techniques, space geometry, modeling and applications. He has published 20 books and more than 200 papers. He holds the highest awards for quality teaching at university level from the UPC and the Government of Catalonia. He has given several hundreds of talks on popularisation and math education from Japan to Argentina and from Australia to the USA.
