Summer season – For many Bachelor and Master students in their last year, the time has come for the exciting yet daunting task to apply, prepare and land a job.

To improve its graduates’ chances on the labour market, every year the University’s Career Centre teams up with the Adecco Group and POG (the Human Resources association in Luxembourg) to create the student competition “Game of Jobs”. At the end of this contest, students will have gained skills and insights helping them get the job they want.

Two rounds to the final battle

The first round in Game of Jobs consists of playful learning-by-doing workshops. Students learn how to boost their presentation and networking skills, how to improve their CV, or develop their e-reputation. Participants are rewarded with skills points and those with the highest score go on to the Final Battle Round. This round holds a new series of challenges in store for them: face-to-face interviews with HR professionals, quizzes, and a final duel presentation in front of the jury and audience.

In this game, everyone wins

In May 2019, over 180 students participated in the event on Belval Campus. “I think everyone is a winner in this competition,” explains Joni Beu, student in the Master in Economics and winner of the Game’s “skills throne”. “I gained a lot of knowledge and met a lot of people. I can say now that I am ready for professional life after university.”

Oksana Domina, PhD candidate in psychology, describes the final duel: “It was beneficial to see the other competitor’s speech and how I could improve my public speaking skills”.

In this game, everyone takes away something. All students receive a certificate of completion. One student gets to participate in Adecco Group’s “CEO for One Month” boot camp. The ”Coup de Cœur ” winner is offered an internship by POG, while other participants receive goodies and rewards, including job shadowing opportunities with several companies. Both participants of the final duel are awarded a private style make-over session with Look@work.

Want to participate next year?

Game of Jobs will be back next year for students of the University. If you are keen to step up your game and be ready for your first summer season on the labour market, keep an eye out for the call for registration through the Moodle platform or JobTeaser.
