This past weekend saw the announcement that Paul Helminger, former Luxembourg City mayor and SnT research fellow, has died at the age of 80. On Saturday 17th April, the prime minister Xavier Bettel announced his death via Twitter.

Paul served as Luxembourg City’s mayor between 1999 and 2011, and it was during his term that he closely followed SnT’s development. Following his time in office, in 2012 he joined the team as a Research Fellow. His vast knowledge of Luxembourg’s industries and entrepreneurial experience was a great asset to SnT during his time here, with his aim being to help us to pave the way for taking research findings and putting them into practice in businesses.

Paul’s focal point while at SnT was the strategic positioning of the centre, in particular supporting the Tech Transfer Office (TTO) and our entrepreneurship activities. He saw great potential in how the centre had, within just a couple of years, established itself as a key player in Information Communication Technology (ICT) related business activities. He was committed to helping us promote the exciting and viable new ideas that originate within our centre, and getting them market-ready.

We were very fortunate to have been able to work closely with Paul for many years, and our thoughts are with his family at this time.
