“With the advent of the quantum computer our IT systems could potentially become very vulnerable again,” explained Prof. Björn Ottersten, our Director, in recent video interview for Lëtz Talk about Cyber.

“This is where quantum communication infrastructure comes into place. It relies on physical principles ensuring that it is secure. We are looking at how to build a quantum communication infrastructure based on these physical principles.”

Quantum communications is a top research area here at the University of Luxembourg’s Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT).  In his interview, Prof. Ottersten goes into detail on our work in this field, and more. He reports on the history and goals of SnT, our European collaborations, and the role the centre plays in Luxembourg.

“We believe that research is a central part to maintain the standard of living in the country. We have to target very highly valued services, and research is part of that,” he emphasised.

He also gives insights into his biggest challenge and shares his advice for young researchers. “Working in research you have to be passionate, but it is one of the most rewarding jobs I can image.”
