In 2004, Étienne Schneider was appointed government advisor to the Ministry of the Economy and Foreign Trade, responsible primarily for the Directorates of Energy, E-Commerce and IT/Data Security. |

- Prof. Björn Ottersten, Director SnT (Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust), University of Luxembourg
Prof. Björn Ottersten received his PhD degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University, Stanford, CA. During 96/97 Dr. Ottersten was Director of Research at ArrayComm Inc, a start-up in San Jose, California based on Ottersten’s patented technology. In 1991, he was appointed Professor of Signal Processing at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm. From 1992 to 2004 he was head of the department for Signals, Sensors, and Systems at KTH and from 2004 to 2008 he was dean of the School of Electrical Engineering at KTH. Currently, Dr. Ottersten is the Director of SnT. He is a board member of the Swedish Research Council and as Digital Champion of Luxembourg, he acts as an adviser to the European Commission. |

Economic Historian at the London School of Economics, Founder of MacroDigest. Dr. Garrick Hileman is best known for his research on monetary innovation and he is frequently sought as a speaker on this and other topics. Garrick is regularly invited to share his research and perspective with the media, including the BBC, CNBC, FT, WSJ, Sky News,and NPR. He was recently ranked as the 34th most influential economist in the UK & Ireland. Garrick's teaching at the London School of Economics has focussed on comparative national economic performance. Prof. Lionel Briand, Ph.D., P. Eng., IEEE Fellow, is currently the lead scientist of the Software Verification and Validation Laboratory at the University of Luxembourg’s Centre for ICT Security, Reliability, and Trust (SnT) and SnT’s vice-director. His main responsibilities are to lead research and innovation activities in the area of software verification, validation, and testing, in collaboration with industry partners such as Cetrel, HITEC, SES, Delphi, and IEE. His activities include automated security analysis of web services and applications through automated security testing, run-time monitoring, and program analysis. Prior positions include the leadership of the Certus software V&V centre at Simula Research Laboratory and a professorship at the University of Oslo, Norway, a professorship and a Canada Research Chair with the Department of Systems and Computer Engineering, Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada, and the leadership of the department of Software Quality Engineering at the Fraunhofer Institute for Software Engineering (IESE) in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Lionel Brand has received several prestigious awards from the IEEE for his work and many awards for best scientific articles. |

Dr. Grégory Nain received his PhD in Software Engineering in 2011 at the University of Rennes in France). Dr. Nain is member of the SnT since March 2012 as head of the “Internet of Things Lab” Infrastructure. The Lab aims is to provide a platform for demonstration and experimentation for partners and European projects. His research interests focus on closing the gap between devices, the reasoning and presentation layers Lately, he obtained a grant for a Proof-Of-Concept project called, “Data Things”, with the objective to create a start-up company. |
Dr. François Fouquet is currently research associate in the Serval team of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust of the University of Luxembourg. He obtained his PhD degree in 2013 on the use of Models@Runtime for the continuous development of heterogeneous and distributed dynamically adaptive systems. This approach, particularly suitable in the domain of Internet of Things has been applied in various European project. Research associate at the SnT since 2013, his expertise in software engineering has been put to good use in several industrial partnership projects, notably with CREOS S.A. In the last years, he focused his research on the problem of efficient manipulation and storage of timed and relational data in IoT systems. |
Dr. Tegawendé F. Bissyandé is a research associate at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) of the University of Luxembourg. He received his PhD degree in Computer Sciences from the University of Bordeaux (France) in 2013. His research interests lie in Debugging and fixing software, Empirical studies for improving software engineering processes, as well as in machine learning applications for malicious app identification. He has published research and practice papers in major venues such as ASE, ICSE, EMSE journal, Middleware, CODASPY and Software: Practice & Experience. |
Dr. Jacques Klein is senior research scientist at the SnT. He is expert in Mobile Security where he develops tools to detect sensitive data leaks and malware. He is collaboration with companies such as Google and various universities in Germany, USA, Singapore, etc. He is also expert in Model-Driven Analytics where he contributes to the development of innovative tools and methods to ease big data analytics, mainly in the domain of Smart Grid. |
Dr. Lautaro Dolberg was born in Argentina, were he did his master in Computer Science and worked as a software engineer for 7 years. After doing an internship at INRIA, France he moved to Luxembourg to pursue a PhD in in Informatics at the University of Luxembourg, his thesis was entitled Network Management with Data Analytics. Currently, he works as Data Scientist consultant while doing a Postdoc at the University of Luxembourg and Choice Holdings. |
Patrick Glauner is a PhD student in machine learning at the University of Luxembourg in collaboration with Choice Technologies Holding, under the supervision of Dr. Radu STATE. He graduated as valedictorian in computer science from Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences and obtained his MSc in machine learning from Imperial College London. He was a CERN Fellow, worked at SAP and is an alumnus of the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes). His current interests include artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, anomaly detection and big data. |
Dr. Radu State did his graduate studies in France and the USA. In 1998 he obtained the Master of Science Degree at the Johns Hopkins University (USA), followed in 2001 by a PhD degree at INRIA (France). He holds an HDR (Habilitation à diriger des recherches) since 2009 from University of Lorraine (France). He also holds an ADR (Autorisation de diriger des recherches, from the University of Luxembourg. He has published over 120 research papers in international peer reviewed conferences and journals and chaired several major conferences in the area of network management and security. Before joining the university of Luxembourg, he was a senior researcher (Chargé de recherche première classe) with INRIA (Institut de Recherche en Informatique), France, where he addressed fundamental and applied research in network and system security. The main areas of research addressed scalable management of dynamic network with a strong focus on network anomaly detection, adversarial modeling and machine learning. He held also a full professorship position“professeur des universities”in Nancy at the University of Lorraine in that period. Starting with 2016, Radu is heading the SEDAN research group at SnT. SEDAN stands for Service and Data Management in Distributed Systems and is currently hosting several Data analytics and Big Data related project at SnT. |

Jean Lancrenon has been a research associate at SnT since January 2012, in Prof. Peter YA Ryan’s group (ApSIA). He obtained his PhD from the Université Joseph Fourier (Grenoble, France) in June 2011. His research mainly focuses on the security modeling of cryptographic services with a particular emphasis on authenticated key exchange protocols. |
Gabriele Lenzini, PhD in Computer Science from the University of Twente, is expert in design and analysis of digital and electronic systems, looking at security both the machine-to-machine communications and the human-to-machine interactions. He has been collaborated with several international research institutions, universities, private companies, and ministerial agencies. Since the 2014 he is a Senior Research Scientist at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) of the University of Luxembourg. |
Dr. Qiang Tang is a postdoc researcher and principal investigator at SnT, specializing in applied cryptography and privacy. At this moment, his research interests lie in addressing the security and privacy issues in new computing paradigms (e.g. big data, cloud computing and internet of things). He has a broad collaborations with people from both academia and industry. |
Vincenzo Iovino got his PhD in University of Salerno under the supervision of Giuseppe Persiano and thereafter he joined University of Warsaw in the crypto group of Stefan Dziembowski. He is currently a research associate of University of Luxembourg in the APSIA group led by Peter Ryan. His research interests include cryptography, and in particular encryption schemes with special functional and homomorphic properties, and electronic voting systems. |
Beltran Fiz Pontiveros is pursuing his PhD at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) of the University of Luxembourg in collaboration with Telindus Luxembourg under the supervision of Dr. Radu State. He obtained his M.Sc. in Artificial Intelligence from the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (Spain) in 2012, focusing on machine learning applied to sentiment analysis as part of the Natural Language Processing Research Group. After graduation he worked as an IT consultant at Ernst & Young. His research is currently focused on machine learning, data mining and cryptocurrencies. |
Mathis Steichen studied electrical engineering and information technology at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich). During that time, he received his bachelor and master degrees. After accomplishing an internship at Telindus Luxembourg, Mathis joined the University of Luxembourg, more precisely the SnT and Secan Lab, as a PhD student in September 2015. Having recently started his PhD studies, Mathis focuses on Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) in collaboration with Telindus Luxembourg. |
Dr. Radu State did his graduate studies in France and the USA. In 1998 he obtained the Master of Science Degree at the Johns Hopkins University (USA), followed in 2001 by a PhD degree at INRIA (France). He holds an HDR (Habilitation à diriger des recherches) since 2009 from University of Lorraine (France). He also holds an ADR (Autorisation de diriger des recherches, from the University of Luxembourg. He has published over 120 research papers in international peer reviewed conferences and journals and chaired several major conferences in the area of network management and security. Before joining the university of Luxembourg, he was a senior researcher (Chargé de recherche première classe) with INRIA (Institut de Recherche en Informatique), France, where he addressed fundamental and applied research in network and system security. The main areas of research addressed scalable management of dynamic network with a strong focus on network anomaly detection, adversarial modeling and machine learning. He held also a full professorship position“professeur des universities”in Nancy at the University of Lorraine in that period. Starting with 2016, Radu is heading the SEDAN research group at SnT. SEDAN stands for Service and Data Management in Distributed Systems and is currently hosting several Data analytics and Big Data related project at SnT. |
