Dr. Jason Settels has been a postdoctoral researcher within the Department of Social Sciences and the Institute for Research on Socio-Economic Inequality of the University of Luxembourg since September 2019. He received a PhD in Sociology from the University of Toronto in 2019, an MA in Sociology from Western University in 2013, and a BA in Sociology from McGill University in 2011. He further received a BSc in Psychology from McGill University in 2007.

His research has been published in Canadian Journal on Aging/La Revue Canadienne du Vieillissement; City & Community; Health & Place; Journal of Applied Gerontology; Journal of Community Psychology; Social Problems; Social Science Research; Society and Mental Health; and Work, Aging and Retirement.

He has received numerous awards, including: 2020 Research Block Grant Allocation Scheme–Merit Based Funding Scheme: Incentive B (University of Luxembourg), Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada Doctoral Fellowship, Outstanding Graduating Student Award (Canadian Sociological Association), Ontario Graduate Scholarship, Outstanding Admissions Award (University of Toronto), Recruitment Scholarship (Western University).

He has taught in various courses on the topics of research design, sociology of education, social inequality, sociology of work, health and aging, social scientific research methods, introductory social sciences, and demography.  

Research interests: quantitative research methods, aging, the life course, health and mental health, stratification and inequality, demography, urban studies, neighborhood contexts, work, and social networks.
