Research in numbers
The University of Luxembourg was founded in 2003, right at the heart of the European Union (EU). The University is multilingual, international and strongly focused on research. We aim to achieve research excellence through a culture of reflection, innovation and diversity of approaches (i.e. different perspectives, methodologies, cultures). In line with this focus, research conducted at the University has been steadily growing, as the following numbers reflect.

Horizon 2020
Horizon 2020 (H2020) is the biggest Research and Innovation programme of the European Union ever with nearly 80 billion euros of funding available over seven years (2014 to 2020). It promises more breakthroughs, discoveries and world-firsts by taking great ideas from the lab to the market. For a research-centered and innovative university such as the University of Luxembourg, it is an important goal to be part of the H2020 community and to continue to successfully apply for these funding opportunities.
Our performance since the launch of H2020 in 2014:
121 approved grants (success rate: 16.7%) amounting to a total EU contribution of over 521 million euros, thereof a University of Luxembourg share of 66.8 million euros.

In total 17 approved ERC grants (including one under FP7, the 16 others under H2020) with a total European Commission (EC) contribution of over 25.5 million euros for the University of Luxembourg (success rate 26%).
