After a hiatus of over two-years caused by the pandemic, the second edition of the Department of Physics and Materials Science (DPhyMS) workshop took place on 15 December 2021 at the Tramsschapp in Luxembourg. More than 150 participants, comprising PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, professors, technical and administrative support staff as well as master students in physics joined this one-day workshop.

After a welcome speech by Prof. Andreas Michels, Deputy Head of the Department of Physics and Materials Science (DPhyMS), highlighting the department development, the day was organised into several sessions where members of each 19 research groups gave insightful talks (15 min long) about their group’s research activities and fields of expertise, followed by Q&A and discussion rounds.

This workshop was enriched by presentations from:

“In the last five years, DPhyMS has grown substantially and today our department is setting an example of interdisciplinary research. This workshop was a department-wide occasion to further develop synergies and strengthen connections”, says Prof. Alexander Tkatchenko, Head of DPhyMS.

The exciting presentations were followed by a social dinner during which attendees could further spend time networking and exploring future collaboration opportunities.
