From 6 to 8 September 2021, the university of Luxembourg hosted the 38th International Symposium on Dynamical Properties of Solids (DyProSo 2021) on the campus Limpertsberg. The event, organized in a hybrid mode under the COVIDCheck regime, gathered more than 60 participants on-site from Europe and Russia, and online contributors and attendees.

The event was chaired by Mael Guennou, Assistant Professor within the Department of Physics and Materials Science at the University of Luxembourg. “DyProSo takes place every 2 years. It is a small conference running a single session, with emphasis on community building, especially between generations and on the last trends in large facilities and their uses for studies of excitations in materials science: neutron sources, synchrotrons, free electron lasers etc.  It was essential for me that the event could take place in-person in spite of the circumstances, be it in a reduced format if need be”, comments Mael.

During those three days, participants had the opportunity to learn from renowned physicists and exchange on a variety of topics, including multiferroics and lattice dynamics with several contributions from several groups from the DPhyMS. In addition to the classical DyProSo topics, this edition also featured a special highlight on light-induced phenomena and material manipulation by THz pulses. In addition, the programme enabled participants to discover Luxembourg via a guided tour of the city.

The next edition of DyProSo will be held in Dresden in September 2023.
