The 2021 edition of the Robotix-Academy took place at the University of Luxembourg on 7-8 October 2021. The two-day training gathered 14 participants from the Universities of Birkenfeld, Liège and Luxembourg and ZeMA Saarbrücken.

The event was introduced by Prof. Peter Plapper from the Department of Engineering at the University of Luxembourg. He welcomed the participants and gave some tips to improve the writing and presentation skills of researchers. The interactive session helped in informing the participants about the basic structure of scientific communication and how to present and disseminate their results in an effective way.

Then, representatives from Zema organised two workshops on “Setup a MQTT API for KUKA sunrise controller” and “Teach-in of components for part detection in the context of bin picking”. The first session tackled the technical steps behind setting up a MQTT API for the KUKA sunrise controller. Attendees were able to interact with the robot to perform simple movement operation. The second session demonstrated the use of AI and ML algorithms for part detection in the context of bin picking. Participants were given a demonstration and hands on training on installing various scientific packages related to these algorithms.

In addition, researchers from the University of Birkenfeld focused on . Participants were guided to download the RoboDK software and simulate a robot to perform simple operations. This exposure helped them in adding one more software in their knowledge skill which they can use for their further works. Simulate a robot with the Software RoboDK”

The final session was handled by the University of Liege on “Moving a Turtlebot using ROS2”. Hands-on training was given to the participants to move the mobile robot avoiding some obstacles placed in the scenario.

Overall, the summer school was conducted successfully with the participation of researchers from the consortium in person.

About the Robotix-Academy

The Robotix-Academy was launched as a cross-border research centre for industrial robotics in order to create teaching and research synergies in robotics between key players of the Greater Region. This year, the courses were once again organised in the framework of the Interreg-project “Robotix-Academy” and with the support of the UniGR. More information: https://robotix.academy
