On 15 October 2021, the University of Luxembourg gathered representatives from academia, government and industry to exchange about the implementation of the hydrogen strategy published in September by the Luxembourg’s Ministry of Energy. The main idea is to have a pilot project for sustainable hydrogen production in Luxembourg that would work as the initial impulse to start the buildup of a national hydrogen infrastructure.

During the event, Pit Losch, Advisor for renewable energies and hydrogen at the Ministry of Energy presented the national hydrogen strategy. At the moment, Luxembourg does not have a hydrogen infrastructure but some consumers in the industry that rely on imports. Furthermore there are some companies that intend to include hydrogen in their future business strategy. Hydrogen will play an important role in Luxembourg’s future decarbonized energy system (in 2050).

After his presentation, participants had the opportunity to discuss the hydrogen strategy and identify different actions to realize this distant vision of a decarbonized Luxembourg. Among them, the launch of a pilot project for sustainable hydrogen production in Luxembourg was at the top of the agenda.

Discussions will continue during future meetings.
