I try to obtain an understanding of the mechanics of solid materials and translate this knowledge into predictive computational models, which can directly or in the long run be used by industry. Some of my current research interests are multiscale modelling (particular the quasicontinuum method), stochastic parameter identification, the treatment of random parameter fields, model order reduction approaches, nonlinear material models with plasticity and damage, and beam descriptions with beam-to-beam contact.
