On 3 December 2020, almost 75 players of all ages participated in the fourth edition of the online interactive quiz “Astigmath: le quiz qui corrige votre vision des mathématiques”. This edition was dedicated to the links between mathematics and Celestial mechanics. On the podium: a 15 year old girl and 17 year old boy, who were offered the calendar “Le calendrier mathématique 2021: Le ciel dans tous ses états” for their brilliant participation.
Launched in April 2020 by researchers Hugo Parlier and Bruno Teheux from the Department of Mathematics at the University of Luxembourg, Astigmath aims to present the modern aspects of mathematics, develop general knowledge, explain major open problems and share passion with others, especially young people, who could have a brilliant future in this field.
In this edition composed of 18 questions, the participants learned more about the mathematics of space, the history and interactions between mathematics, astronomy and cosmology, and the key problems and findings which are illustrated in the mathematical calendar 2021 “Le ciel dans tous ses états“. On this occasion, mathematician Olga Paris-Romaskevich, CNRS researcher at the University Aix-Marseille, who contributed to the calendar, shared her knowledge with the participants.

Astigmath attracts a growing number of participants, bringing together followers and newcomers from different ages and regions which enables fruitful exchanges. “We have a lot of fun in creating and animating these quizzes, and we are extremely happy to reach a public mainly composed of young girls and boys,” confess Hugo Parlier and Bruno Teheux.
The next edition will take place in March 2021 in the frame of the festival “Les Maths en Scène”.
