Math Camp

The Department of Mathematics (DMATH) is organising the first Math Camp between August 31 and September 10, 2020. The camp offers a mathematical warm up to all first year students to ease the transition between high school and university, and is arranged in two independent weeks.

Boot Camp: Aug 31 - Sept 4

This first week is a quick refresher/get in math shape quickly type initiative.
In the mornings, students work in small groups, using a hands-on based approach to high school level mathematics under the supervision of specially trained math teachers. The aim is to review or familiarise students with concepts and techniques, focusing on those that will be used throughout their university curriculum.
Afternoons are dedicated to Math Forge sessions (peer tutoring) and ice breaker events.

  • Teaching language: FR (individualised teaching also in EN or DE)
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, from 9:00 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 16:30
  • Location: the Boot Camp will take place in small groups (of at most 10 people) at the Maison du Savoir on Belval Campus. If you are unable to attend for health reasons, please contact as soon as possible for information about remote access.

Prep Camp: Sept 7 - Sept 10

This second week serves as both a refresher on high school level mathematics, from the perspective of a university curriculum, and an introduction to concepts that students will be using throughout their bachelor studies.
In the mornings, students follow courses given by teachers. Afternoons are dedicated to Math Forge sessions (peer tutoring) and social events.

  • Teaching language: courses are taught in parallel in FR and EN
  • Schedule: Monday to Thursday, from 9:00 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 16:00

Initial quiz

To help first year students to assess their math skills in relation to the minimum level that should be mastered by any student registering to a Bachelor programme at the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM), a quiz (in French) has been published online. If you get weak results on the quiz, don't panic! Join us at the Boot Camp to improve your skills.
