Interdisciplinary Lab for Intelligent and Adaptive Systems (ILIAS)
Be welcome! The Intelligent and Adaptive Systems Research Group (ILIAS; see ilias.uni.lu) is home to 5 Professors, 6 Guest Professors, 16 PostDoc researcher, as well as to 20 Doctoral students. ILIAS investigates the theoretical foundations and algorithmic realisations of Intelligent Systems for complex problem solving and decision making in uncertain and dynamic environments. Our activities include interdiscplinary research that fits to the rapidly growing role of Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, and Robotics. The collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Centres SnT, LCSB, and C2DH as well as with the Luxembourg School of Finance (LSF), the involvement with the High Performance Computing facility (HPC), and the collaboration with the Computational Sciences initiative reflect ILIAS's significance for Luxembourg’s strategic priorities and future.

This summer, Dr Francisco Lera from ILIAS has been involved in the Frontier Development Lab (FDL) program, in partnership with NASA Ames Research Center and hosted by SETI Institute in Mountain View, California. FDL is an applied artificial intelligence research accelerator established to maximize new AI technologies and capacities emerging in academia and the private sector and apply them to challenges in the space sciences. During eight weeks, seven teams explored four research challenges focus on space initiatives: Space Resources Challenge, Exoplanets Challenge, Space Weather Challenge and Astrobiology Challenge. Last 16th, August, these teams presented their POCs and results at the Horizon even hosted by Intel. Francisco was a member of the Space Resources team I, which aimed to develop a path planning solution for a cooperative multi-robot system.
