Dimitrios Argyroulis joined the Department of Social Sciences as a Post-doctoral researcher/ Research associate in December 2021.

His research interests concentrate on the economic and monetary governance of the European Economic and Monetary Union including the reform of the Stability and Growth Pact after the financial crisis and the pandemic, the establishment of the Recovery and Resilience Facility, the impact of Ordoliberal ideas on the creation of the European Semester and the legitimacy of monetary policy decision-making. Dimitrios works with Professor Anna-Lena Högenauer in the project EMULEG exploring the adequacy of the independence apparatus and the accountability mechanisms of the European Central Bank (ECB) in light of the significant democratic legitimacy challenges that emerged during the last decade. He is seeking to contribute to the development of concrete policy proposals for the improvement of ECB's legitimacy and accountability via a comparative research design. Dimitrios completed his PhD in Politics in November 2020 at the Department of Politics and International Relations, University of Sheffield.
