Shafagh Shahabi has spent more than twenty years studying Social and Educational Sciences and working in socio-educational settings, in particular in relation with inclusion. At the University of Paris-Sorbonne, she became familiar with the theoretical foundations of sociology of education and then specialized in intercultural education and the construction of identity of students evolving in plurilingual and pluricultural contexts. Her doctoral thesis focuses on understanding and characterizing cultural representations of “euro-students” and the process that leads to such representations. Her most recent research focuses on Social Care & Support Services Sector for Persons with Disabilities in Luxembourg published by EASPD.
Shafagh has further combined theoretical and ethnographic research with field work. During the past two decades, she has almost continuously observed, analysed and documented the educational environment and practices at the European Schools of Luxembourg. In addition, as a trained specialist in the pedagogy of Maria Montessori, she has worked for several years with children and adolescents from disadvantaged social environments, sometimes with special needs, and suffering from forms of exclusion. Insights, knowledge and experience gained alongside this process has been, and will, nurture her research at the University of Luxembourg in the area of social work.
