Jordanne Edwards is a social worker and international development professional, currently working as a Doctoral researcher in Social work and Art-based/digital Interventions at the Institute for Social Research and Interventions.

She specialized in Anti-Oppressive and Generalist Social work practices during her undergraduate studies at the University of the West Indies (2012-2015) and Ryerson University (2013-2014). She then went on to work in social justice and human rights programmes in Jamaica and later pursued her Masters in Advanced Development in Social Work (2016-2018) across five European universities funded by the European Commission’s Erasmus+ programme.

Through her globalized practice and research with various NGOs, governmental and international agencies including the United Nations (Paris: 2019-2020), she is interested in social justice movements, activism, indigenous knowledge, community development and innovative intervention strategies. Furthermore, she is particularly interested in theories surrounding resilience, race, trauma, oppression, identity politics, intersectionality, cultural dynamics and power relations.

Drawing on qualitative research methods, namely ethnography and discourse analysis, her thesis analysed emerging concepts of social trauma and healing in community work with LGBTQ+ fxlks and asylum seekers in Paris. She hopes to further explore and develop both concepts in her dissertation.
