Ruta Müller joined the Research Unit INSIDE, at the Institute for Health and Behaviour as a FNR/AFR funded doctoral researcher in January 2019. Previously she studied Psychology at the University of Hull (United Kingdom) and obtained her Master’s degree at Universität des Saarlandes (Germany).
Her main research interests include:
- Mental disorders associated with physical symptoms, including somatic symptom disorders
- Neuropsychological disorders and their treatment
- Interoception
- Psychophysiological research methods
Ruta’s PhD project “Stress effects on interoceptive learning and memory as a mechanism of somatic symptom generation” (INMEMO), supervised by Dr. André Schulz and Prof. Dr. Ilse van Diest (KU Leuven, Belgium), focuses on understanding the psychobiological processes behind the development of somatic symptom disorders. In this project, three essential mechanisms, i.e. interoception, learning and memory, and stress, are investigated through a novel and innovative approach. This research project constitutes fundamental research with a clear clinical orientation.
