Dr. Luca J. Uberti joined the Department of Economics and Management as a post-doctoral researcher in October 2020. Previously, he was Alexander Nash Fellow at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies, University College London (UK). He remains an Affiliate Member of the UCL Centre for Comparative Studies of Emerging Economies. He holds a PhD degree from the University of Otago (New Zealand).
His primary research interests are in political economy and comparative economics. In particular, his work investigates the causes and consequences of corruption, institutional quality and cultural norms, with a particular focus on emerging economies. He also has an interest in growth and development, and the economics of post-socialist transition. Some of his work is based on data from countries in the Balkan region (especially, Albania and Kosovo), where Luca has conducted extensive fieldwork research and provided policy advice to governments and donor agencies.
