Alexander Breysem joined the Department of Economics and Management as a Doctoral Researcher in October 2020. Previously, he worked at the Permanent Representation of Belgium to the UN in Geneva and at the UN Global Compact in New York, focusing on human rights and corporate sustainability respectively. He holds a BA and MA in History from the Catholic University of Leuven and a MA in Human Rights and Democratisation from the Global Campus of Human Rights.

His primary research interests are business and human rights in general, and modern slavery in particular. His work investigates the processes, conditions and dynamics that generate and facilitate modern slavery, as well as the different agents who enable modern slavery. He is also interested in corporate strategies and practices that aim to remedy or eradicate modern slavery within business operations.
