FAQ Covid-19

How can I contact the library and which services are still available?

I have a question concerning the library, its documents or services. How can I contact a librarian?

You can contact us through our “Ask a Librarian” service. Send us an e-mail to askalibrarian@uni.lu. The librarians remain committed to providing quality service and answering your questions.

Which services of the library are still available?

All the electronic resources of the library are available through the library catalog www.a-z.lu.

We still offer remote assistance via our “Ask a Librarian” service. Registrations (for UL students and staff), as well as virtual “Book a Librarian” meetings are still possible. Check out our website for more information or contact us via e-mail askalibrarian@uni.lu.

I’m not registered yet. How can I access the online documentation of the library?

Please send us your registration request to askalibrarian@uni.lu from your university e-mail address.

The online documentation is only accessible for students and staff of the University. If you’re an external user, you can register at the National Library to access the online content on www.a-z.lu. Here is the info about the registration.

Resources available online

How can I access the online content, which is only available inside the buildings of the University or the National Library?

Most of the online content is remotely accessible via the library catalog www.a-z.lu with your library login (K-... & password).

The content, which can usually only be accessed via the network of the university or National Library, is exceptionally available remotely. A VPN connection is not needed to access this content. As a result of the negotiations between the Consortium Luxembourg (of which the LLC is part of) and the providers, this content is now available remotely during the closing of the libraries. You can see the full list of the available content here. More databases will be added to this list. Please note that in the catalog, it still says that the access is only given onsite, but you can just ignore it and click on “Online access”. We don’t have the possibility to update this message everywhere. A login via www.a-z.lu is necessary to access these databases.

If you need help with e-book or database accessibility, or if you are looking for a specific document, do not hesitate to contact us askalibrarian@uni.lu.

Are more e-books and e-journals made available during the closing of the libraries?

Yes, several publishers are offering temporary access to additional electronic resources. Find the list here. The access to our e-books is also more global: for example, we have unlimited simultaneous access (from a single user or 3U) to all Elsevier titles until mid-June. If you need access to e-books or others resources you can’t find on www.a-z.lu, please contact us via e-mail (askalibrarian@uni.lu).

How do I find the electronic resources available in a discipline?

You can check out our subject guides on our website. Click on the subject you’re interested in and then on “Electronic Resources”.

Information skills

How can I follow a library training remotely?

You can participate in our Online Course on Academic Research Skills on Moodle (course available in English and French) or follow the video tutorials on our website.

I need help using the electronic resources, can the librarians help me?

You can contact the librarians via e-mail (askalibrarian@uni.lu). We can also offer you an online meeting (Webex) through our “Book a Librarian” service, for more in-depth questions about our online resources.

Reopening of the LLC and services related to it

When will the LLC open again?

A first phase of reopening starts on the 11th May with a pick-up point. This means that books can be borrowed (after prior reservation) and returned.

We currently don’t know when the LLC will be fully operational again, but we invite you to keep informed via the University’s homepage, its social networks and the library’s website.

From the 11th May onwards, you can come get them from Monday to Friday from 10:00 until 17:00. Please see “pick-up section” for more information.

Can we plan a guided tour for when the LLC reopens?

In view of the current situation with the COVID-19 outbreak and since we do not know when it will be over, we cannot plan any visits at this time.

We invite you to contact us again when the situation has returned to normal.
