On 21 May 2018, the exclusive preview of the first international edition of Art2Cure took place in New York. In order to celebrate this occasion, Art2Cure decided to support an important transatlantic Parkinson’s research collaboration between Columbia University and the University of Luxembourg. Prof. Dr. Rejko Krüger’s research group from the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) of the University of Luxembourg, and Prof. Dr. Serge Przedboski’s laboratory from the Columbia University, are joining forces to lead a cutting-edge research project on Parkinson’s disease.

The Clinical and Experimental Neuroscience Group, headed by Prof. Dr. Rejko Krüger, at the LCSB, aim to elucidate molecular signalling pathways leading to neurodegeneration in Parkinson’s disease and to establish a bridge between basic research and the clinic in order to develop new neuroprotective therapeutic strategies in the treatment of this disease.

Prof. Dr. Serge Przedboski and his team’s focus lies on the molecular and cellular biology of neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

Art2Cure New York helps to enable this important exchange of expertise between the Clinical and Experimental Neuroscience Group and Prof. Przedboski’s laboratory, which allows researchers to continue the high quality research on Parkinson’s disease.

Philippe Lamesch, Vice-President of Art2Cure, explains: “We strongly believe that bringing together researchers from different backgrounds with complementary sets of expertise, such as in the case of Columbia and Luxembourg Universities, their biomedical research can be accelerated and the path towards a cure be shortened. We are glad to be able to contribute to this important partnership through the funds raised during the Art2Cure exhibition.”

The Art2Cure fundraiser is taking place at the famous Ronald Feldman Gallery in New York City’s SoHo district. The show is organised by the Luxembourgish non-profit organisation Art2Cure in collaboration with the Consulate of Luxembourg in New York. The aim of this exhibition is to promote some of Luxembourg’s best artists while raising money for research.
