Who are you and where are you from? My name is Wander Engbers and I am from the Netherlands. What did you study beforehand?  Political Sciences at the University of Amsterdam. During my bachelor I specialised in Public Policy and Governance, did a minor in European (Union) studies and went to Sweden (Uppsala University) for an Erasmus exchange.

Why did you decide to join the European Governance Master Programme? 

I decided to join the MEG programme because I wanted to deepen my knowledge of the functioning of the European Union in a bilingual environment. While there are many Master's programmes on the European Union the University of Luxembourg one was in particular appealing due to the multidisciplinary approach, French/English curriculum and location with many european institutions in the vicinity.

What did you enjoy most about the programme ?  

The small scale and enthusiasm of the professors in combination with a broad curriculum which introduced me to fields of studies I would never have imagined being so excited about in the end.

What is it that you do now and did the degree help in your career path?

I am currently working as a Consultant Policy & Competitiveness at Capgemini Consulting. Within this function I am working primarily in the EU domain, conducting studies for the EC or managing particular EU programs. My degree, in combination with other international endeavours, helped to underline my knowledge about the functioning of the Union and strong research skills which got me my job. 

How did you like Luxembourg?  

Luxembourg to me was a city with many faces, on the one side very international with the financial sector and European institutions yet on the other side a ‘small town’ atmosphere. 

What were your best memories? 

My best memories of the MEG programme were the professors, who with their diversity in character yet shared enthusiasm for their respective fields, fostered and nurtured all of my curiosity. Of course, the social events also contribute to these fond memories.
