Who are you and where are you from?

My name is Anthony De Bondt and I was born and raised in Brussels, Belgium.

What did you study beforehand?

At the time when I started the programme, I already held a Master in Political Science, obtained at the Free University of Brussels (VUB).

Why did you decide to join the European Governance Master Programme?

While my MA in Political Science offered me the chance to develop certain analytical and research skills, I was still left with generalist knowledge about politics. Looking for a programme focusing on European Union politics, the MA in European Governance offered not only the right content, but also gave me the opportunity to study in a bilingual environment and develop presentation skills.

What did you enjoy most about the programme? 

The fact that a maximum of 25 students a year can start the programme allows for good interactions not only among students but also between students and teaching staff. I furthermore highly appreciated the opportunity to meet staff from EU institutions.

What is it that you do now and did the degree help in your career path?

Currently, I work as a management consultant in the Energy & Utilities sector. The programme has definitely helped me to gradually gain more experience and climb the ladder. Consulting firms are always looking for candidates with the right mix of analytical and personal skills, and those you can develop during the two years. In this regard, the possibility to do an internship during the 4^th  semester is a key element. Choosing the right company/institution/NGO to work for during your last years in the programme can be a huge plus when applying for jobs afterwards.     

How did you like Luxembourg? 

Luxembourg is a peculiar but fascinating place to live and one of the better countries to practice different languages at a time. You might have to look a while to find the right places for you to do whatever you like, but once you’ve found them, you will appreciate it even more.

What were your best memories?

The ‘small’ university receptions with excellent ‘Crémant de Luxembourg’.
