
Pierre Werner Scholarship
Inspired by the ideals of Pierre Werner, the Pierre Werner Scholarship fosters European integration. The Fondation Pierre Werner, under the aegis of the Fondation de Luxembourg, awards an annual scholarship to outstanding postgraduate students from European countries (except Luxembourg) in the fields of law, economics, finance and political sciences at the University of Luxembourg.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must be:
- EU nationals (excluding Luxembourg) or citizens of a recognised candidate for future membership of the EU (Albania, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia/North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Turkey);
- registered for PhD studies at Uni.lu at the time of application and can be at any stage of their studies.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
All candidates must submit an application including:
- a duly completed application form
- a personal statement/motivation letter
- a CV, including list of publications (if applicable)
- two letters of recommendation (academic)
Applications accepted from 30 January to 26 March 2023.

SELECTION PROCEDURE
A selection committee composed of four professors from the University of Luxembourg will evaluate the submitted applications on the basis of the selection criteria enumerated above. More specifically, the Head of the Doctoral School in Law, the Head of the Doctoral School in Economics and Finance, the Head of the Institute of Political Science and the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance will be the members of the above-mentioned committee. The four Professors will pre-select up to four candidates, and will communicate the results to the Pierre Werner Foundation. The management committee of the Pierre Werner Foundation will make the final selection of the scholarship recipients.
ALLOCATION OF SCHOLARSHIP
The Pierre Werner Scholarship amounts to 26.000 EUR for one academic year. The scholarship maybe divided into awards to up to four successful candidates. As of 2020, the grant per the students will be fixed at 6.500 EUR maximum. The university can grant 3 to maximum 4 scholarships.
