A new cooperation agreement has recently been signed between the School of Engineering at Tohoku University, Japan, and the Faculty of Science, Technology and Communication at the University of Luxembourg. The signed agreement was formally exchanged during a State Visit to Japan, where the University of Luxembourg was represented by Vice-President Tonie van Dam.

The agreement with Tohoku University foresees among others the promotion of joint research and educational activities as well as the exchange of faculty members, researchers and students. In particular, cooperation in the field of robotics is planned. The agreement was formally exchanged between the two universities during the Luxembourg Japan Space Conference held in the framework of a State Visit to Japan end of November last year. In this framework, possible cooperation avenues on various engineering topics, including space robotics technology for lunar resource identification and mining activities were presented.

Tohoku University, located in Sensei, in the North-Eastern part of Japan, is the third oldest Imperial University and one of the most prestigious higher education institutions in Japan. Its School of Engineering was founded in 1919 and is composed of five departments on undergraduate level as well as 17 departments, one research institute and three research centers on graduate level.
