Researchers from the University of Luxembourg and the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) have recently launched a national section of the European Physical Society (EPS) Young Minds. They will focus mostly on developing scientific, networking and outreach activities in physics.

The essence of the EPS Young Minds project is to boost the creativity of young researchers, setting up bright, brave, creative, determined, passionate and focused initiatives. The following activities are generally offered:

  • seminars and colloquia to help broaden the (scientific and professional) knowledge, in particular by inviting Nobel laureates or outstanding scientists belonging to minorities;
  • visits to local industries and research labs to boost the integration between industry and research;
  • educational outreach programmes to local schools and communities to provide a stimulus for new generations of scientists and increase the awareness for the importance of scientific research amongst the wider public.

The current board of the EPS Young Minds Section in Luxembourg is composed of members from the Department of Physics and Materials Science (DPhyMS) at the University of Luxembourg and from the department Materials Research and Technology (MRT) at LIST.

The project is open to all enthusiastic young researchers in Luxembourg working on physics, materials science, applied mathematics and engineering. “We are now looking for new members. Of course, these activities are time-consuming but they are really rewarding. Don’t miss the opportunity to join us and participate in all the exciting activities we want to push in the upcoming years! In addition, EPS provides financial support for such activities though a specific granting scheme. We also look forward to meeting with the other Young Minds Sections at European level and interact with the other student organisations at national level”, comments Alice Debot.
