Statistical Mechanics of Active Matter

About the presentation

In this lecture, Prof. Etienne Fodor will introduce popular models of active matter, and discuss how the combination of individual self-propulsion and interactions between individuals leads to collective effects without any equilibrium equivalent. He will delineate the main research questions under scrutiny in the Physics of Active Matter group, such as the search for universal features in active matter, and highlight how these open challenges can reshape our understanding of living systems..

About the speaker

Prof. Etienne Fodor joined the University of Luxembourg as part of the Department of Physics and Materials Science in October 2020, benefiting from a FNR ATTRACT grant. Before coming to Luxembourg, he was an Oppenheimer Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge, and he obtained his PhD thesis at Université Paris Diderot. His research group focuses on the Physics of Active Matter, a novel class of nonequilibrium systems composed of self-propelled agents.
