On Friday 25 November 2022 the Department of Engineering celebrated its first Research Day of its Doctoral Programme in Engineering Sciences (DPES) on Campus Kirchberg.

The daylong programme comprised a morning and an afternoon poster session during which 42 doctoral candidates were able to present and discuss their research. The event was well received by the candidates and supervisors who normally work on different campuses, within different organisations in Luxembourg and abroad. It was also a success among the industry partners and academics who were present for the occasion.

The large range of topics presented from materials engineering, energy systems and efficiency, sustainable construction solutions and engineering informatics to global geodetic monitoring demonstrated the highly diverse disciplines that are represented in the Department of Engineering and the Doctoral Programmes. The day also provided an opportunity for Bachelor and Master students to learn about the research in their chosen engineering disciplines. The evening programme with the official ceremony included brief speeches from Vice-Dean Professor Dr Serge Haan, Head of the Department of Engineering Professor Dr Stephan Leyer, doctoral candidate representative Mr. Sinan Kaassamani and former doctoral candidate Dr. Furqan Ahmed, now working at Qualcomm Technologies Inc. in the USA. Besides his comments on career paths after the PhD, the buffet and drinks, as well as the prizes for the best posters finished off a welcoming scientific, yet social, event that was, according to many doctoral candidates, long overdue.

The posters remain on display at Campus Kirchberg before being exhibited at Campus Belval.
