In his talk, Luis Leiva will present Handwriting is a sensory-motor skill and a tool for cognitive development. It teaches the brain functional specialisation: integrating tactile sensation, visual information, fine movements, dexterity, and thinking in the most efficient way. Thanks to computational models of handwriting, computers can simulate human-like behavior on behalf of the user. This makes it possible to understand and anticipate the user abilities, without the need of actually recruiting users and performing subsequent data labeling tasks. This can help the experimenter to save considerable time and cost, especially in the early stages of research, thus iterating more often and exploring more ideas.
