Continuing professional development

The FSTC sponsors continuing professional development activities to enable teachers to enhance their teaching and generally improve the learning environment.

Teaching showcase

The teaching showcase is a forum in which faculty members share ideas and experiences of different and innovative teaching and learning support activities that they carry out in their classrooms. Speakers briefly share their experience, including the setting and pedagogical reasoning for the activity, its impact, and any future plans. Thus, faculty members have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the resources available to support them in implementing similar activities.

Workshops

The FSTC invites world-renowned specialists in higher education pedagogy and innovative practitioners to lead in-person workshops on topics such as Ph.D. supervision, interactive pedagogies, assessment and feedback, and course design.

Teaching and learning innovation grants

At the end of 2015, the FSTC launched the Teaching and Learning Innovation Grant in order to provide funding to faculty members who engage in innovative activities that enhance the quality of student learning. The following projects have been selected:

Professional recognition

In 2014-2015, the FSTC piloted a new scheme to support individuals interested in receiving professional recognition for their experience in teaching and learning in higher education.

Up to now, 5 FSTC members have been recognised for their commitment and professionalism in teaching and learning support in higher education under the United Kingdom Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF) and have thus joined the UK Higher Education Academy Fellowship: Danièle Waldmann, Tonie van Dam, Cassandra MikicicClaude Wolf and Francesco Viti
