Launched in 2009 by the University of Luxembourg and the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), the "Master en Management de la Sécurité des Systèmes d’Information” (MSSI) has been very successful to train high level information security managers. Ten years after, it was time to celebrate this achievement, to give an overview and to look into the future. More than 40 participants attended the festive event on 31 January 2019 in Belval.

As current course directors of the Master in Information Systems Security Management (MSSI), Yves Le Traon, Professor in systems and software reliability at the University of Luxembourg and Nicolas Mayer, Senior R&T associate at LIST, thanked all those who have contributed to make this Master renowned at European level in the field of information security. In particular, they paid tribute to the late Jean-Claude Asselborn who initiated the Master as the first course director.

Then, David Hagen, Head of IT supervision and Support PSF at CSSF, shared his testimony as one of the MSSI creators and current professor. “It took us four years to build the programme which was really pioneer at that time in order to tackle cybersecurity issues. Hackers have always existed but the perception on security has dramatically changed in recent years, passing from “information technology” to “information security”. Nowadays, it is a crucial need for companies to have information security managers who have the skills to analyse, interpret and provide adequate solutions. In line with the cybersecurity strategy of the European Union, the MSSI perfectly answers market needs.”

In addition, they exchanged about the future of the Master whose content will be reviewed to include new topics such as blockchain technologies and artificial intelligence. Finally, students, alumni and professors enjoyed the evening’s festivities with the birthday cake.
