WHY STUDY INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY?

Information Technology (IT) is pervasive in our everyday lives, and in a few decades has become one of the keys to business success in most sectors of the economy. That is why IT is a sector that is creating many highly skilled jobs, offering excellent professional opportunities to competent people who are able to adapt to rapid technological changes throughout their professional activities. Engaging in computer studies today is a pragmatic choice compared to what one can anticipate from the needs of the labor market, but it is also the door open on a field in constant evolution, of a diversity and offers exciting challenges to those who will be able to meet them.

WHY TO CHOOSE THE BACHELOR IN APPLIED INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF LUXEMBOURG?

The "Bachelor in Applied Information Technology" at the University of Luxembourg (BINFO) offers an excellent, generalist education in information technology (IT), whose objectives are to give students operational skills that are relevant and desirable to potential employers and so allow a quick integration into the professional world, in either the private or the public sector. The BINFO provides students with the basic theoretical and applied knowledge in core IT areas like algorithms and data structures, databases, networks, software development in practice, mobile and web application programming, but also the practical thinking to apply these technologies in industry. This focus on an applied qualification combines theoretical components of a traditional study in computer science with a focused approach giving students real-world skills and applicable concepts geared toward their chosen career path. Beyond technical learning, BINFO also prepares its graduates for the European labor market with various theoretical and applied trainings on soft skills like an entrepreneurship training, psychological aspects of team work, several practical team projects, and finally a one-semester practical internship in an IT department of some Luxembourgish company. The programme is a highly human-centered programme, with a strong international presence: bilingual French / English curriculum, a mobility semester abroad, teachers and fellows from different countries and of different cultures. BINFO graduates are therefore optimally prepared to directly enter the labor market after their study, but also possess the basic foundations in computer science to continue their education within a Master programme.
