We are pleased to announce that Prof. Christina Siry, Head of the Institute for Teaching and Learning in the Department of Education and Social Work, has been awarded the Svend Pedersen Lecture Award 2020* from the Stockholm College of Teachers. Since 2005, this award has gone to an outstanding researcher in the didactics of science subjects or mathematics subjects.

In their justification, the jury stated that Christina Siry’s research has contributed to highlighting children’s voices in teaching about science in preschool and the early school years. She has made pioneering contributions within the field of early childhood and primary education. Of particular importance is her research on the joint work and interactions of children and teachers in science inquiry, inclusion of children’s voices in her research, and examination of their multi-modal communication in the multilingual contexts of her country. Her research has had lasting impact on science education internationally and for the development of research and teaching at the Department of Mathematics and Science Education, Stockholm University.

You can attend Prof. Siry’s award lecture entitled “Working toward spaces of inclusion, equity and justice in science education” on Wednesday, 18 January 2023 (15.30 – 17.00) via Zoom.
