Hossein Nabilou has earned his PhD in the European Doctorate in Law and Economics (Universities of Rotterdam, Hamburg & Bologna). He holds an LL.M. with the focus on Law, Business, and Public Policy from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, an LL.M. in Public Law, and an LL.B. both from the Shahid Beheshti University School of Law (formerly the National University of Iran). Hossein is currently a postdoctoral researcher in Banking and Financial Law at the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance of the University of Luxembourg and a Research Associate at the Amsterdam Center for Law and Economics (ACLE) of the University of Amsterdam Law School. Hossein teaches (European) banking and financial law and conducts research on banking law, shadow banking, structural reforms of the banking industry, alternative investment funds, fintech and cryptocurrency regulation. Prior to joining the University of Luxembourg, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU) Munich, Faculty of Law where he was conducting research on Banking Structural Reforms.

Hossein was also a postdoctoral research fellow at Columbia Law School (Columbia University in the City of New York) and a visiting fellow at the EUROPAINSTITUT (the Institute for European Global Studies) in Basel, Switzerland. He has worked as a researcher and legal counsel at the Bureau of Legal Research and Information of the Iranian Presidential Office, the Department of Legal Studies of the Research Center of the Iranian Parliament, the UNESCO Chair for Human Rights, Peace and Democracy (Tehran), and the Research Center for Judicial Development of the Iranian Judiciary.

Hossein’s research interests include Law & Finance, Law & Economics, Regulation of Financial Markets and Institutions, International Financial Regulation, Fintech, Public Law, and Constitutional Law. The focus of his PhD thesis titled “The Law & Economics of Hedge Fund Regulation: A Comparison between the U.S. and the EU” was on the potential contribution of the hedge fund industry to financial instability and analyzing the transatlantic regulatory responses to hedge funds’ alleged systemic implications in the aftermath of the global financial crisis.
