This talk will focus on the impact of trading in spot markets on sourcing strategies.

Different procurement policies have been employed by companies signing long term contracts with regular suppliers. A few examples of these types of contracts will be discussed.

It is well-known that flexible contracts help companies improve their financial performance and manage procurement risks properly. However, in certain situations, long term contracts alone, despite being flexible, may not be the solution.

Consequently, the value of procurement (and possibly selling) in spot markets will be discussed. Few examples from industry and different forms of “hybrid (long term contracts and spot markets) policies” will be provided.
