“Dual-Sourcing Strategies that Create Carbon Efficient Supply Chains”

Melvin Drent received an AFR individual PhD grant from the Luxembourg National Research Fund for his proposal entitled: “Dual-Sourcing Strategies that Create Carbon Efficient Supply Chains”. This grant is awarded yearly and is aimed at offering excellent students the opportunity to fulfill their ambitions to conduct PhD research. The grant is awarded in the form of an employment contract for a maximum of four years combined with additional travel and training budget.

Melvin’s project, which will be supervised by Prof. Joachim Arts, focuses on supply chain strategies that explicitly incorporate the environmental dimension into decision-making. More specifically, they will investigate dual-sourcing strategies that consider both eco-friendly and polluting supply sources across the supply chain. By developing control policies that decide when and how much to order from which type of source, their research will create supply chains that are at the same time cost-efficient, provide the required service and have a low negative environmental impact.
