Students from the Master in Logistics and Supply Chain Management (LSCM) embarked on a three-week conference stay at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA, in January to present their research and exchange with their peers.

During this so-called Independent Activities Period (IAP), students attend seminars taught by supply chain experts as well as presenting their Master thesis research and working with students from across the MIT Global Supply Chain and Logistics Excellence (SCALE) Network. This network features the MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics in Cambridge, Massachusetts, as well as five sister centres around the world, including the Luxembourg Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management.

The three-week conference period also offered the opportunity to visit companies active in the field of logistics and supply chain management, such as Amazon Robotics, Walgreens and Boston Scientific, combined with networking events with leading business professionals.

Around 200 students from all six centres also took part in the APICS International Supply Chain Case Competition as well as a business simulation, the Fresh Connection Challenge.

A highlight of the IAP is the research expo, at which corporate partners, journalists and business professionals are invited to meet the students and discover their research. The LSCM student team, Gabriel Balbino, Iordan Bokov and Elvin Mursalov, were the winners of the day with their award of the “Best Thesis Poster” of the Luxembourg cohort.
