Students from the Master in Logistics and Supply Chain Management celebrated the successful completion of their studies on 27 June, presenting their research to professors, peers and LCL industry partners.
The Luxembourg Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management (LCL) welcomed its second cohort of Master students for the 2018-2019 academic year.
Addressing participants on the day, LCL Director Prof. Benny Mantin underlined the students’ hard work and recalled the inspiring time spent together with them. Proud of the cohort’s achievements, he further congratulated students on their thesis projects and on the value they generated for the companies they worked with.
These projects, carried out in cooperation with an industry partner, were presented by the prospective graduates, followed by questions from the audience. The theses covered a wide range of topics, including intermodal supply chain traceability, parcel distribution network, truck capabilities prediction, carbon foot printing and electric power management. The approaches used to address these topics also ranged from extended literature reviews and interviews to machine learning and mathematical optimisation.
Visiting LCL for the occasion, Prof. Yossi Sheffi from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) emphasised the important role that supply management plays for businesses looking to develop and retain a competitive advantage on the market. He also added that the latest graduates in logistics and supply management were equipped with a unique set of skills to address the challenges faced by the industry.
Students were warmly congratulated by the LCL faculty team, including their master thesis supervisors, who shared some of the memories they had gathered during students’ time at the LCL.Students received a certificate for the successful completion of their coursework at the MIT in January 2019. In addition to joining the MIT SCALE alumni network, they will officially graduate from the programme at the University of Luxembourg’s graduation week in December.
“Learn about yourself”
Valedictorian Rosa Santoma Oria also emphasised the steep learning curve the cohort had been on to achieve its projects and to face real business problems. The 4-weeks spent in Boston taught students a lot about collaboration within a big international team. Rosa talked about her first time in a foreign country and about the second family she could find in her classmates. She thanked them for their friendship and unwavering support.
She explained that the class diversity in terms of backgrounds and origins made a very special and beneficial environment to grow in. She insisted on the fact that the intense master programme had been a unique chance for them to learn about themselves first.
Looking forward to their upcoming successful career, “It is now time to continue the first day of the rest of our lives,” she concluded.
