Explore Conference – 10 March – Postponed

With great regret, due to the current climate surrounding COVID 19, a decision has been taken to postpone the planned conference on 10 March. Whilst the University is not currently recommending the cancellation of events, after review, we feel the situation does not support a successful conference environment, due to travel restrictions and health concerns of both speakers and guests.

Therefore a decision has been taken to postpone. We hope to welcome guests to an extended LCL Research Fest in June, if the current climate improves – more information to follow later. Thank you for your understanding.

Alexis H. Bateman

Director, MIT Sustainable Supply Chains

Alexis Bateman is a Research Scientist and Director of MIT Sustainable Supply chains. She also serves as a course lead and instructor for the MITx MicroMasters in Supply Chain Management.

She has over fifteen years of experience in sustainability in the public sector, industry, and academic settings. Her work focuses on supply chain sustainability through research, education, and outreach. She has engaged closely with industrial partners, public agencies, global governance organisations, and non-governmental organisations.

Robert Boute

Professor of Operations Management at Vlerick Business School and KU Leuven

Robert Boute is Professor of Operations Management at Vlerick Business School and University KU Leuven, Belgium and visiting professor at Kellogg School of Management (Northwestern University).

He was named one of the 40 best professors under 40 by Poets & Quants in 2016, and was laureate of the 2017 Franz Edelman Award for Achievement in Operations Research and Management Sciences. Robert has worked with a variety of companies on operations and supply chain improvements.

Mario Grotz

Director General, Directorate General for Research, Intellectual Property and New Technologies , Ministry of the Economy – President of Luxembourg – President of Luxinnovation

Mario Grotz started his career at the Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Craft, where he acted as advisor to SME’s in areas concerning business creation and business management. In 2001, he joined the Ministry of the Economy where his focus was on the evaluation of R&D projects implemented by the private sector. From 2009-2012 he was appointed Head of the Directorate for Infrastructures and Technology. Since 2012, he is the Director General for Research, Intellectual Property and New Technologies, responsible for the development of the technology-based sectors in Luxembourg: cleantech, biotech, ICT and space. He also represents the State of Luxembourg in different boards of private companies. In 2012, he became Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company Creos Luxembourg.

In 2018, Mario Grotz became President of Luxinnovation, the national innovation agency, which offers a wide portfolio of services to companies and public research organisations.

Mario Grotz has been a key advocate of the country’s space industry and commercial space activities. In context of the SpaceResources.lu initiative, he has played a crucial role in the setup of the regulatory, legal and financing frameworks that have positioned Luxembourg at the forefront of space resources utilisation. Most recently, in September 2018, the Luxembourg Space Agency (LSA) officially launched operations with the goal of promoting the further economic development of the Grand Duchy’s space industry by attracting businesses, developing human resources, providing innovative financial solutions and supporting educational and research infrastructure.

Bram Kranenburg

Senior Consultant Data Science and Supply Chain Optimization at CQM.

Dr. Bram Kranenburg is Senior Consultant Data Science and Supply Chain Optimisation with CQM, a Dutch consulting company. The projects he is involved in, cover the broad field of data science and logistics analytics, modeling, innovation, and optimisation.

Sarah Van der Auweraer

Postdoctoral researcher at the Luxembourg Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management (LCL), University of Luxembourg

Sarah Van der Auweraer joined the Luxembourg Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management (LCL) as a full-time postdoctoral researcher in October 2019.

Sarah completed her MSc in Business Engineering, majoring in Production and Logistics management, at KU Leuven in 2015. She defended her PhD in Applied Economics, titled “Spare part inventory management using Service Maintenance Information”, which was conducted in close cooperation with an industrial partner.

Her research focuses on demand forecasting and inventory management for spare parts, with published papers in peer reviewed journals.
