In this roundtable, we will discuss the increasing prevalence of algorithms and their use in supply chains.

Artificial intelligence, which utilises advanced techniques to recognise patterns and correlations among data, can advance supply chain management practices and apply to areas such as forecasting and demand planning, inventory management, and purchasing. The increasing sophistication of machine learning algorithms is also raising regulatory concerns, consider for example the recent Google antitrust ruling. Machines can coordinate collusive behaviour in ways that have not yet been foreseen, even eliminating competition. Hence algorithms have to be carefully designed.

The Digital Supply Chain Roundtable Series

Organisations increasingly recognise the importance of supply chain management — the success of which relies on the efficiency and effectiveness of their processes, the quality and availability of information, and the interaction with other members of the supply chain. Digitisation, Industry 4.0, and Blockchains are among the emerging technologies that bear the potential of critically affecting these factors. In this series of roundtables, we will discuss, share, and outline ideas, strategies, experiences as well as research relating to the forthcoming transformational technologies.

The Digital Supply Chain Roundtable Series provides a place where our supply chain community can regularly come together to hear about new discoveries, techniques and ideas.

The roundtables encourage discussion and interaction between supply chain professionals and University of Luxembourg students and faculty. They address issues and topics relevant to the industry and leading professionals. They also expose supply chain professionals to industry research conducted at the University and elsewhere. The key aim of the series is to allow its participants to collaborate, sharing business ideas and skill sets to strengthen their businesses together.

The roundtables are of particular interest to senior managers in the logistics and supply chain community.
