Owiso Owiso is a doctoral candidate in Public International Law under the supervision of Prof. Matthew Happold, having joined the University of Luxembourg in February 2019.

Owiso holds a Bachelor of Laws [LL.B(Hons.)] from the University of Nairobi (Kenya), a PGD in Legal Practice from the Kenya School of Law, a Master of Laws [LL.M] from the University of Pretoria (South Africa) and a Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) from the University of Geneva and the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva (Switzerland). He is licensed to practise law in Kenya, having been called to the Kenyan Bar in January 2016. Prior to joining FDEF, Owiso assisted the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights Situation in Eritrea as a research assistant, and undertook internships at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, Switzerland and at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, The Netherlands. His doctoral research focuses on the role of regional inter-governmental organisations (specifically the EU and AU) in accountability for international crimes. His research interests include public international law, inter-governmental organisations, international criminal law/justice, transitional justice and human rights.
